The SWMC is mandated by law to implement and enforce the Solid Waste Management Act (2009). Litter, derelict vehicles and unkempt properties are among the jurisdiction of the corporation.  As a result, persons found disobeying orders to remove litter and refusing to pay penalties can be issued summons for prosecution in court.
