The ever so faithful Icilma Henry bode farewell to the SWMC family on the 11th of January 2017 to pursue other aspirations. Icilma has been a member of staff of the SWMC for just over five years and has endeared herself to her colleagues, especially those at the SWMC Headquarters. In a short farewell function on January 11th, staff members lauded Icilma’s contribution to the SWMC and especially her cooking. “I have fallen in love with you from day one,” said SWMC staffer Cassandra Gillon. At that moment litter warden Sandra Caines quipped: “Cause you does bring food,” in response to Cassandra’s remarks, triggering laughter among the gathering. Of course, Cassandra concurred. “You are the best cook ever and we love you. I am going to miss you. I hope that you can still think about it and stay with us for another five years…I love you as a person and thank you for everything you have done for us,” Cassandra added, while kissing Icilma on her cheek. SWMC Secretary Sharon Drew gave a different outlook on Icilma’s departure. “A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do when the time is right. May you be successful in your new adventure,” she said.
Meanwhile, General Manager of the SWMC Alphonso Bridgewater was generous in his praise of Icilma. “Icilma, I wasn’t ready for you to go yet. It’s a decision you made and I trust that you would live with it and understand. The mere fact that you are moving on from us is not a separation of the relationships,” Mr. Bridgewater said. He assured that whenever there will be functions at the SWMC, she would be asked to provide catering services.
True to her nature, Icilma refrained from commenting on her new pursuit or on fond memories of working at the SWMC. But she celebrated the occasion on her last day of work at the corporation with food and refreshments in the kitchen at the Headquarters in Taylor’s Range. One thing for sure, her humble, quiet demeanor and dedication to her task will be greatly missed. The SWMC staff and management wish her all the best in her new endeavor.
